Quantitative easing (QE) is a central bank monetary policy used to stimulate the economy in extreme circumstances. The bank creates money to buy financial assets from commercial banks and other private institutions, raising the prices and lowering the yield of the assets, whilst simultaneously increasing the monetary base.
